The Nigerian Army has graduated 87 soldiers from the 90 Regular Intake for deployment to various theatres of Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
The soldiers completed the eight-week Exercise Shining Star X/26 at the 1 Division Training School, Dalet Barracks, Kawo, Kaduna.
The graduation ceremony was held on Friday and was attended by senior officers, instructors and other military personnel. The General Officer Commanding 1 Division and Commander, Sector 1 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadique Muhammad Wase, was represented by the division’s Chief of Staff, Brigadier General TM Opurum.
Opurum said the training, approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, was aimed at improving operational readiness and strengthening formations under the division.
The training covered field operations, live-fire exercises, battle inoculation, land navigation, watermanship, tactical motorcycle operations and awareness of improvised explosive devices.
The soldiers were also subjected to simulated combat fatigue, stress and sleep deprivation to test their endurance, mental alertness and teamwork.
Opurum urged the graduates to apply the skills acquired during the exercise, maintain discipline and loyalty, and comply with the Army’s code of conduct and rules of engagement.
Earlier, the Acting Assistant Director, Army Physical Training and Divisional Training Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Pharouk Mohammed, said the trainees underwent intensive tactical, weapon-handling and counter-terrorism exercises.
He said the graduates had met the required standards in character and learning and were prepared to perform their constitutional responsibilities.
Speaking on behalf of the graduands, the Course Leader, Private Kapnim Bitrus, thanked the commanders and instructors for their guidance during the training.
The ceremony included tactical demonstrations, a rapid rifle stripping and assembly competition and a counter-ambush display. Certificates were subsequently presented to the graduating soldiers.
