Troops Destroy Lakurawa Camps, Kill Fighters in Sokoto

Nigerian troops have neutralised several Lakurawa fighters and destroyed their camps in Waria Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The operation, conducted on Thursday, October 15, also led to the recovery of weapons and five motorcycles, according to the military.

The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, said troops engaged the armed group in a firefight before forcing the fighters to flee deeper into the forest.

He added that troops subsequently pursued the fleeing fighters and destroyed their camps and support structures.

The military said clearance operations would continue to prevent armed groups from using the forest as a hideout.

However, the military did not disclose the exact number of fighters killed or provide details of the recovered weapons.
