The Enugu State Police Command has launched an investigation into an alleged shooting near the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) secretariat that reportedly left a man injured and five parked vehicles damaged.
The incident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026, when unidentified armed men allegedly opened fire at the scene.
The victim, who was repairing a vehicle parked along the road, sustained a suspected gunshot injury. Police operatives took him to a hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
Commissioner of Police Mamman Bitrus Giwa has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to identify and arrest those responsible.
In a separate incident on Saturday, police and military personnel dispersed suspected NDC members involved in a fight at the entrance to Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu. The party members had gathered to receive their governorship candidate.
Police spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe said preliminary findings indicated that airport authorities had restricted the number of party members allowed to enter, triggering a misunderstanding that escalated into a fight. Joint security personnel intervened to restore order.
Giwa urged political parties and their supporters to avoid violence and comply with the law and existing peace agreements.
He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to providing security for all political parties and called on them to notify the police of planned activities to allow adequate security arrangements.
